Sebastián Vélez, a 20-year-old** student from Medellín, Colombia--and the 2019-20 GRSP Student hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Brookhaven and North Atlanta--will address the Brookhaven Rotary Club on Wednesday, September 11. Sebastián will share some details about his home in Colombia and about his hopes for the GRSP year.
The Georgia Rotary Student Program
(GRSP) is not an exchange or an academic scholarship. While each student does enroll at a Georgia university, attends classes and maintains satisfactory academic standing, GRSP is a peace program. This program is unique in the world of Rotary and is supported by all Rotary Districts in Georgia.
The Georgia Rotary Student Program was the brainchild of Will Watt, a Rotarian from Thomasville who in 1946 wanted to create a peace program for young people from Europe. GRSP has since expanded to bring students from all over the world to Georgia to meet each other, get to know life as a young person in the U.S., make life-long friendships with people from the U.S. and around the world, and promote greater understanding and peace among people from different nations.
